Psychotherapy

The term "psychotherapy" covers a range of different therapies which all involve, broadly speaking, talking. It's more than counselling, as it involves investigating the causes of someone feeling a certain way. Once the causes are identified, techniques can be developed to help with it.

It is considered to be person-centred and solution-focused, meaning that it is individual and aims to help the individual come to terms with whatever has happened in their lives and move on, so they don't live in the past.

Psychotherapy doesn't involve a set of techniques to "cure" issues, instead it focuses on what causes the issues and keeps them going, the belief being that if the cause is known, the solution can be found.
